A BUMPER line-up of stock reached record levels at Aberfeldy Show yesterday, thanks to double the number of commercial cattle and a boost to the Blackface and cross sheep sections, where the champion of champions title was awarded to the winner of the cattle section.

That was a September-born bullock from John Robertson, sister Margaret, and son Craig, from Newton of Logierait. This stylish lad was champion at Perth Show the previous week and is sired by Calogale Irresistible, the Limousin bull that was behind the £9000 record-setting heifer at the Royal Northern Spring Show.

The Clydesdale leader, Kevin Wilson's Westbank Ruby Tuesday, claimed the reserve spot. This 10-year-old Doura Above All daughter finished off her 2017 season in style and remains unbeaten.

Taking the top sheep title was the winner of the commercial section, a home-bred gimmer by an Auchenlay-bred Beltex cross Charollais tup from the Thomson family, West Park.

The Thomsons also led in the prime lamb section with a trio of 45kg Beltex-bred lambs by a Tiree tup.

Back to the fore in the Blackie section was a ewe from the North Amulree flock, brought out by Billy Brady and son Alan. Their champion of champions from two years ago is by a £16,000 Connachan.

From a quality entry of Highland ponies, the overall championship went to the in-hand winner, Marion Rogers' Cailin of Drumdewan. This nine-year-old by Beechwood Maol Rubha was shown with her April-born colt foal, Campbell of Drumdewan.

Sally Murray’s ridden champion, Lurgan Tay Mhor, an eight-year-old Red Rock Dunain daughter, went on to stand reserve Highland pony.
