After being cancelled last year, Coylton Show bounced back with a new venue and a strong show of livestock, where a good turnout of local spectators witnessed the dairy champion take the overall cattle honours and a Beltex gimmer stand supreme in the sheep.
Overall champion of champions judge, Alistair Wylie, Boquhan, Stirling, awarded the top award amongst the cattle to Robert Veitch’s home-bred Holstein cow, Ve-Tech Goldfish Kim, from Strandhead, Tarbolton. By Topfarm Goldfish, this top show cow was reserve All Britain two-year-old in 2016
Standing reserve in the cattle lines was Coco Chanel, a British Blue heifer from Shona Stevenson, Carbello, Cumnock. Bought in March from J Forrest, she stood champion at Dalrymple and reserve at New Cumnock and Biggar.
Supreme inter-breed calf was Sexy and I Know It, a home-bred four-month-old Limousin cross commercial calf from Jennifer Hyslop, Balluskie, Barrhill. This show calf is by Shire Apollo.
The busy sheep lines saw the Beltex gimmer, Damside Bailey, from Cameron Jackson, Woodyett, Kirkfield, take the top award – 10 years after he won the same trophy here.
His gimmer which was on her show debut, is by Corstane Whistler.
Reserve was the Blackface leader from Billy McFarlane and sons Joe and Alfie, Drumgrange, Patna. This was the Dalchirla-bred Blackface gimmer, Emma, which was purchased for £12,000 at Stirling, in May as a rough ewe hogg. She is by a £10,000 Nunnerie tup lamb and out of a Dalchirla-bred ewe.
In the inter-breed sheep groups, Ashley Bothwell, Smithston, Ayrshire, stood supreme with a trio of Suffolks, which stood infront of Blackfaces from Scott Watson, Knockbreck, Straiton.
