LOCAL breeders were to the fore amongst the Charolais breed when all four senior and junior titles went to Stirling-based herds.
The French breed, which saw the majority of entries within the females, also produced the reserve honours in the both the junior and senior continental championships later in the day.
First to take a win was an August, 2016-born bull from Andrew Hornall, Falleninch, who secured both the champion and reserve honours amongst the seniors last year with Falleninch Lottie and Falleninch Lucy.
Going all the way to the top this year for Andrew was Falleninch Mars, a son of Fairway Jefferson, out of Falleninch Isabella. On just his second outing, he was first in the continental calf class at Gargunnock.
New breeders, John and James Graham, from Mains of Burnbank, Blair Drummond, who were on their first ever outing with Charolais cattle took the reserve honours with Blackford Monarch.
Bought as a calf with its mother along with two other outfits from the MacPhersons at Blackford, near Inverness, this 13-month-old son of Clyth Diplomat, is out of Blackford Candy.
Father and son team, Robin and William McMurrich, who run 20 Charolais under their Formakin prefix, achieved a personal best when Formakin Narvana went on to top the juniors.
By the French sire, Cyrano, which has bred a lot of show winners in France, this 10-month-old rising star is out of Formakin Flame, a dam which bred the reserve junior champion here in 2015.
Archie and John MacGregor’s young bull, Allanfauld Napoleon secured the reserve title for the Allanfauld herd at Kilsyth. This January-born son of Dingle Hofmeister is out of Allanfauld Empress.
