FROM only six Highland ponies forward, it was one with a proven show record that stood to the fore when Susan Wardrop’s Querina of Carlung was tapped out as champion by Willie Nelson, from Girvan.
Susan’s seven-year-old mouse dun boasts home-bred genetics, being by Carlung Jed and out of Lauren of Carlung, a mare that secured the reserve in-hand championship at the Highland Pony Society Breed Show in 2016. Querina herself has picked up a number of tickets, including the breed title at the Kittochside Heavy Horse Show, last July.
Another mouse dun, Bowmore Ben Cruachan from John Bonar, daughter Jackie and her daughter Laura, secured the reserve honours. This six-year-old gelding, by Moss-side Iain Mor and out of the show-winning Bowmore Lady Laura, has always been in the tickets for the Islay-based trio, and was gelding champion at last year’s Breed Show.
