A ZWARTBLES breeder made history at the 150th Balmoral Show when Cyril and Denise Cromie’s home-bred gimmer followed up her win in the short-wool championship with the overall inter-breed honours.

The Cromies, who run around 55 ewes in their The Fort flock, are no strangers to the prizes here having won the breed championship twice before and were landing their third with The Fort Elloise, a Bridgelands Boris daughter.

The long-wool champion, a two-shear Border Leicester ewe from Harold Dickey, was tapped forward in to reserve supreme spot by Carol Watson. Shown in the championship by Johnny Aiken, she is sired by a Ditton tup and rounded off an excellent show for Harold who won every Border class in what was thought to be a first for the breed.

Taking the honourable mention ticket was Sean Doyle’s Loughbrae Black Knight, a home-bred Hampshire Down shearling which stood reserve in the short-wool section.

Completing the line-up of four in the supreme inter-breed was the reserve long-wool winner, Patrick Donnelly’s home-bred Scotch Mule gimmer.
