ECHT exhibitors and showgoers enjoyed glorious sunshine throughout last Saturday, and witnessed a Limousin cow and calf outfit crowned champion of champions.
The event, which was host to this year’s Scottish Limousin Grand Prix, attracted more than 50 Limousins from herds across the country and it was the supreme champion in the Grand Prix competition which went on to win the cattle inter-breed and show champion of champion titles.
That was Brockhurst Lucy, a three-year-old cow by Wilodge Vantastic, from Doug Mash’s herd at Torrington, Chesham, Buckinghamshire. Brought out by Dougie McBeath and Sarah-Jane Jessop from Lower Greenyard Farm, Stirling, where Brockhurst Lucy is livered, she is out of the Grahams Samson-sired Brockhurst Bolshoi. On just fourth outing of the year having stood first in her class at the Highland, second at the Yorkshire and reserve female at the Hertfordshire County Show, she was shown with her heifer calf Brockhurst Oriana.
Blair Duffton and Rebecca Stuart of Huntly and Insch, also enjoyed a good day when their Limousin cross heifer named Shaniqua, took the reserve honours in the beef inter-breed championship. This 20-month-old heifer by Lodge Hamlet, was bought at LiveScot, Lanark, for £1500 and has already picked up tickets in the show circuit having stood champion at Fettercairn, reserve at Angus and was second in her class at the Highland.

The Scottish Farmer:

Blair Duffton and Rebecca Stuart were reserve in the inter-breed beef championship

The same two stables scooped the top two tickets in the beef groups as Limousins from the Brockhurst herd ruled supreme, while Blair and Rebecca’s commercials settled for reserve.
In the sheep lines, taking home the blue, white and red sash was a home-bred one-crop Suffolk ewe from Graeme Christie’s 50-strong ewe flock at Newton of Balquhain, Inverurie. She is by the 10,000gns Deveronside Doodle Bug, a tup Mr Christie bought a share in at Stirling in 2015, and out of a home-bred ewe by the 12,000gns Strathisla Stifler. She stood champion at Angus and was fourth in her class at the Highland.

This Glenside Valhalla daughter was bought inside its mother – a Teiglum Tornado daughter which was bought at Carlisle in 2014, as the flock’s foundation dam.
