In a roll over from last year's British Friesian National Show at the Expo, Oakalby Quadrant Cathy 50, from brother and sister duo, David Burroughs and Margaret Vale and herdsman Robert Ives, was back in fine form to claim the supreme championship.

This home-bred third calver is from one of the biggest Friesian herds in the UK, with the Oakalby prefix from Aldeby, Beccles, Suffolk, home to no fewer than 400-cows boasting rolling 305-day milking yields of 7900kg at 4.0%BF and 3.3%P. Cathy, a Deangate Quandrant daughter out of a previous home-bred Cathy, is no average Friesian though as she has already produced 7900kg at 180 days in milk, and having calved in September is still giving 32kg per day. She classified VG87 as a heifer.

Adding to the celebrations, the Oakalby herd also bagged the honourable mention with Oakalby Vienna Debbie 2, which earlier in the day scooped a red ticket in the 'Iron Grandma' class. A nine-year-old eighth calver, Debbie is by Langley Vienna, a bull that also bred the Livestock 2012 champion, Oakalby Vienna Sheila, and out of Oakalby Frigate Debbie 15.

Having bred last year's reserve overall champion for Ian and Gillian Blanmire, father and son team, Basil and Adam Lawson from North Cassingray, Largoward,Fife, went one step better to lift their own blue and white sash. Their show stopper was Adams Laura 6, a daughter of the former stockbull, Raby Jazzman bought at the Raby dispersal. Previously unshown, Laura 6 which calved her first 10 days previous at 25months of age, and is now giving 32kg, is bred from Adams Laura 3, an Ex91 classified high yielding former show cow.

The duo who also run Dairy Shorthorns at North Cassingray, were back in the tickets in the junior section winning the championship with Gemini Ignitor Primrose 3, a 22-month-old heifer by Dechmont Ignitor out of Gemini Titanic Primrose. She scooped the exact same award last year but with her breeders, Tim Barrell and Ava Malt at the helm.
