The humid atmosphere failed to dampen spirits at Catrine Show where Robbie Scott’s home-bred Holstein heifer Nethervalley King Doc Lorna was crowned supreme in the main ring.
The heifer from the family’s Nethervalley herd from Shacklehill, Tarbolton, was picked out by judge Billy Kirk, Skerrington Mains Cottage, Hurlford over the beef and sheep entries.
“She is a very correct heifer with plenty of style. As a dairy cow she carries herself well and has plenty of milk,” he said describing his choice of champion.
A second calver sired by King Doc and of Hilltop Meridian R Lorna, she is currently in calf with twins and producing 57 litres of milk per day. Although this was her first outing of the year, she was champion and reserve heifer at Catrine and Ayr, respectively last year.

Reserve overall was the beef champion Marsbar, from Andy Ireland, Feoch, Dalry. This 15-month-old Limousin cross steer bred by Kevin Watret, Annan, is by Hunterhall Nutcracker and out of Cream Cracker which goes back to the veteran British Blue show cow, Solway View Elegance.
“He is a very good commercial animal but had just a wee bit of stiffness to his walk compared to the Holstein,” said Mr Kirk.
Daniel Hodge’s one-crop Blue Texel ewe, Hodges Golddust from Dykes Farm, Auchinleck, landed the top award amongst the sheep. Champion here last year as a gimmer, she is sired by Pistyll Empire and out of Grahams Essex Girl.

Champion – M Bryson, Whiteflat, with Panda Whiteflat Amma O’ Kalibre, a three-year Ayrshire in milk bred from Panda Dazzling Red and on her first outing of the year. Paraded 180 days calved, she is giving 60 litres per day. Reserve – A Woodburn and Sons, Killoch Farm, with Killoch Army Bella Red 2. This previously unshown November 2021-born Red and White is sired by Siemers Appo Army and out of Killoch Bella Red. Heifer in milk – A Woodburn and Sons. She calved six months ago and is now three months in calf with twins. Champion here last year and reserve heifer at Ayr in 2023. Continental beef (Judge: N Goldie). Champion – C and F Smith, Lawersbridge with Lawersbridge Teardrop, a two-year-old in-calf Charolais heifer by Whitecliffe Musketeer to be sold at Carlisle today (Saturday). Heifer – C and F Smith.
Native beef (Judge: N Goldie). Champion – G Dunbar, Drumboy, with Drumboy Arlo, a yearling Hereford bull by Hoghton View Mr Majestic and out of Moeskaer Keepsake. Reserve native champion at Strathaven last year. Reserve – G Dunbar with Hilton Empress, a 22-month Belted Galloway heifer sired by Barwise Jago and bred from Maximus Carla. First outing. Stirk – G Dunbar.
