Eoin wins Mhor at International Cattle Show

It was a fantasic one-two for Michael Poland's Argyll-based Mottistone fold at the International Highland Cattle Show held at Pollok Country Park last weekend.

Judge, John Crilley of Balmore of Leys, Culdethel, Inverness, commented that he was very impressed by the high standard of cattle put forward at this increasingly popular event.

Finishing off a fantastic showing season by first lifting the male championship and then going on to take the supreme accolade was the two-year-old bull, Eoin Mhor 8 of Mottistone.

This Eoin Mhor of Miungairigh son was reserve male champion at the Highland show and stood breed champion at the Great Yorkshire.

Reserve supreme was the female champion from the same home, Flora 2 of Mottistone, an eight-year-old cow by Ruairidh of Glengarnock and out of Flora 2 of Kindrochaid.

Standing reserve to Eoin Mhor in the male championship was the junior champion from Her Majesty The Queen, Companach of Balmoral. The 17-month-old is by Hamish Mhor 3 of Callachally and is of Lady White 69 of Balmoral and will be heading for the Oban sales in February.

Jim and Catherine McKechnie's two-year-old heifer lifted the reserve female award. Kirsty Morag of Ubhaidh is by Torquil 1 of West Merkland and out of Kirsty of Cladich and makes up part of a small number of females for Catherine's Gartocharn fold.

The reserve junior title went to DT and AM Handley's yearling heifer Una Dubh 3 of Gilden Vale. She is by Black Prince 2 of Idvies and out of Una Dubh of Gilden Vale.
