Is this the future of herbicide application? New Holland’s new XPower is claimed to be an environmentally friendly electro-herbicide. It will allow farmers to replace chemicals with electricity for weeding and pre-harvest desiccation of crops and it is capable of destroying the complete plant down to the roots, without spreading potentially harmful chemicals on the crops. It consists of a couple of applicators getting in contact with the weeds to burn them. The effect of electricity on treated vegetables is visible only after a few hours and application booms are available in different working width from 1.2 to 3m. This electro-weeder is part of a suite of new technology, under the Agxtend brand being rolled out by New Holland in the coming months
