A YOUNG heifer claimed the championship before selling for the top price of £6700 at a show and sale of calves with show potential held at Brecon.

That was an eight-month-old by Cwmlimo Hercules, bred from a Limmy cross mother, from local exhibitors, Dai Brute and family, Gwndwnwal, Talyllyn. Tapped out as supreme champion by Phil Price, from Hay on Wye, who won last year's Royal Welsh Winter Fair, this stylish heifer sold to Mike Rowlands, Dolwn, Llanidloes, who also bought Cheeky Girl from the Brutes at the Welsh Winter Fair in 2016, which went on to take reserve supreme at the Beef Expo last May.

The family also secured the reserve bullock title with a May, 2017-born Limousin cross which sold to CJ Harris, Little Lambert, Torrington, for £3200, with the family selling another Limousin cross heifer to M Wynne, Hall Farm House, Matlock, for £3400.

The reserve heifer followed the leader to stand reserve supreme for RW and LA Jones, Lower Argoed, Erwood. The August, 2017-born Little Mix is by Emslies Galilea, out of a British Blue mother, and was knocked down to S and A May, Sheltwood, Bromsgrove, for £4700.

Claiming the bullock championship was Tyisaf Nailer from PJ and TA Jones, Tysiaf, Erwood. Selling to Mike Rowlands for £3400, he is by the Ampertaine Elgin-sired Sheehills Jet and out of Richland Bubbles.
