LIMOUSIN cattle from Nethermyres topped Lawrie and Symington’s sale of 19 prime cattle when three entries realised 250p per kg. 
That was paid for a 626kg bullock as well as heifers weighing 583kg and 559kg, as the 13 heifers averaged 236p per kg with six bullocks at 230p. A 674kg Limmy bullock from the same home topped the gross trade at £1577.16 with heifers also reaching £1523.34 for a 651kg Limousin from Mill of Inverarity. 
Hoggs (705) levelled at 210p having sold to 256.8p for a Cheviot from Newmill of Inshewan and £112 for a Texel from Torrax. 

Huntly
DESPITE the adverse weather conditions, 2103 prime hoggs met a firm enquiry and many more could have been sold as the sale averaged 215.71p per kg at United Auctions
They peaked at 245p for 40kg Beltex from Bruach Cottage, Fochabers, and £112 for 64kg Suffolks from North Burreldales, Alvah. 
There was a lack of powerful, heavy ewes which resulted in medium and leaner types being dearer in value as 544 sold to £114 from Bruach Cottage. 

Dumfries
PRIMESTOCK numbers were reduced due to the ‘Beast from the East’, but those that battled the storms were rewarded at C and D Auction Marts. 
Of the 47 OTM cattle, which met a competitive trade for all classes, the 33 dairy cows averaged 110.9p per kg and sold to 126p for a Holstein off Conheath and £1037.50 for another from Muirside. Averaging 126p, the 12 beef cows sold to 141p for a Simmental from Wellhill and £1005 for another from Cormaddie. 
Prime hoggs (987) also met a sharper trade to top at 240p for Texels from Newhope and £102.50 for heavy Texels from West Skelston. 
All classes of the 234 cast sheep continued to be in demand as Suffolks from Rigghead topped at £132.50. 
 
Thainstone
CATTLE from Cairncoullie, Glenkindie, topped most sections at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 14 prime cattle when a 695kg Limousin heifer made £1563.75 and a 650kg Limousin bullock realised 234p per kg and £1521. 
The three bullocks levelled at 219.6p (+4.7p on the week) while 11 heifers averaged 220.8p (-3.2p) and topped the trade at 246p for a 565kg Charolais from Moss-side of Gight, Fyvie. 
Cast beef cows (71) averaged 146.3p (-0.2p) and sold to 186.4p for a British Blue from Seaview, Sanday, and £1550 for a Charolais from Spengar, Sandwick.  
Longtown
BUYERS were keen for supplies at C and D Auction Marts’ sale of 3398 prime hoggs last week, where the vendors that braved the weather were rewarded as the sale averaged 224p per kg with SQQs at 225p. 
Best Beltex and Texel hoggs sold at extreme rates between 280p and 300p, with export hoggs selling to 220p and 240p. They peaked at 309p for Beltex from Messrs Lines, Killocraw. 
Heavy hoggs were very dear with many pens selling between £120 and £130, reaching £133 for Texel crosses from Messrs Jackson, Langdyke Cottage.
Lightweight, meaty hoggs sold readily between 210p and 220p, with a pen of Blackfaces from W Skilling, Cara View, topping at 231p. 
Cast sheep (2961) improved by £5 to £10 on the week as heavy ewes (531) averaged £116.13 and sold to £161 for Texels from Chaseside. Light ewes reached £80 for Cheviots from Allfornaught and rams hit a top of £120 for Texels from Beckfoot. 

Ayr
HOGGS were keenly bid for and easily cleared at Craig Wilson’s sale of 2319 hoggs on Monday, which cashed in to average 223.8p per kg, a rise of 17.1p on the week and 60.7p on the year. 
They peaked at 265.1p for a pen of Beltex from J Wilson and Son, Wheatfield, Kilmaurs, and £119 for Beltex from Balcaimie. 
Blackface hoggs (975) levelled at 210.9p, and sold to 235.1p for a 40kg pen from John Weir, Muirkirk, and £108 from Craig. 
Of the 352 cast sheep, which met the dearest trade of the season, heavy ewes reached £140.50 for a pen of Texels from Dykes Farm, Auchinleck, and averaged £79.08. Lighter sorts peaked at £76.50 for a pen of Blackies from G McCarter, Cauldhame and averaged £51.66.
On Tuesday, 12 prime heifers averaged 233p or £1298.43, having reached 241p twice for Limousins from High Gameshill, as well as £1433.85 for another from High Glentriploch.
In the cast ring, 53 beef-bred cows sold to 181.7p and £1590 for a Charolais from Caprickhill to average 132.8p. 
The 99 dairy-bred cows levelled at 115.8p and sold to 155.2p for a Friesian from Gabrockhill as well as £1180 from Kilmaurs Mains. 

St Boswells
HARRISON and Hetherington sold 66 prime cattle on Monday, where 27 bullocks levelled at 220p per kg (+1p on the week) with 39 heifers at 217p (-4p). 
They reached 250p for a heifer from Penston, with bullocks to 246p from Lennoxlove, with the same home topping the gross trade at £1479.72.
Cast cows were up 20p on the week to average 161p for 35, peaking at 219p and £1699.44 from Inland Pastures. 
Prime hoggs also improved on the week when 419 levelled at 226.65p (+21p). They hit tops of 281.9p for Beltex from Wester Ulston and £135 for Suffolks from Bonjedward Mill. 
Cast sheep (62) hit £135 for Texel crosses from Kedzlie, with lighter sorts to £87 for Mules from Fountainhall. They averaged £99.

Lanark
A CHAROLAIS heifer weighing 552kg from David Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, topped Monday’s sale of prime cattle at Lawrie and Symington, when she sold for 253p per kg. 
Butchers’ cattle sold to average 245.1p, and bullocks reached 247p for a lighter Limousin from Collielaw. 
A Charolais cow from the Wights at Midlock topped the 81 cast cattle at £1720 with a Limousin from Greenbank making 176p. Dairy cows sold to £1085 from Blyth and 165p from Moatmains. 
Texels weighing 42kg from Robert and Margaret Struthers, Collielaw, topped the 2531 prime hoggs at 286p and £120.50 as the sale averaged 226.1p. 
Cast ewes hit £140.50 for Texels from Lee Meadow.

Carlisle
THE 62 prime cattle at Harrison and Hetherington, on Monday, were considered the best show for some time and topping at 257.5p per kg was a British Blue cross heifer from Messrs Brough, How Gill. 
Heifers also reached £1520.82 for another Blue, this time from £1520.82. Limousin crosses topped the bullock entry at 238.5p from Messrs Dixon, Low Whinnow, and £1786.38 from Messrs Cope, Kirkland Guards.  
Those that sold prime hoggs were rewarded with strong trade as the sale of 1705 averaged £103.54, with 1261 hoggs selling in excess of £100. The offering peaked at 302.2p and £123.80 for Beltex from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown, with that £123.80 paid two more times – for Dutch Texel from Messrs Laird, Unity, and Beltex from Messrs Batty, Flimby. 
Mules sold to £111.30 and 239p from Messrs Smith, Kelmore Hills, while Blackfaces reached £112.80 and 248.4p from Smalmstown. 

Stirling (Cal)
THERE was a good show of 2045 prime hoggs considering the weather at Caledonian Marts, on Tuesday, where the average rose 6.4p on the week and 50p on the year to level at 218p per kg.
Many export hoggs weighing 39kg to 43kg were selling in excess of 230p, but the top price of 264p was paid for a pen of 44kg Beltex from R Downie, Newton of Crathie, which more Beltex, this time weighing 59kg from Doune Farms, leading the gross trade at £120. 
Also forward were 386 cast sheep where the 127 heavy ewes levelled at £79.38 and sold to £142 for a Texel from Drumsynie, Lochgoilhead, while 246 export ewes averaged £49.02.

Dingwall
BRITISH Blues led the sale of 11 prime cattle at Dingwall and Highland Marts, on Tuesday, when a 540kg heifer from Easter Strath of Auchterflow, Avoch, sold for 226p per kg and a 580kg bullock from Easter Sheep Park, Balblair, made £1276. 
The nine heifers also reached £1273.30 for a 595kg Limousin cross from Teawig, Beauly, and averaged 217.2p (-6.5p on the week). 
Hoggs met an improved trade as 1644 levelled at 226.2p (+9.4p), with the 1366 SQQ hoggs at 229.9p (+9.5p). 
Beltex crosses from Torgorm, Conon Bridge, topped the sale at 300p for a 40kg pen and £126 for a 42.5kg pen. 
Feeding sheep (105) sold to £136 for a cross ram from Allanglach, North Kessock.

Castle Douglas
WALLETS Marts sold 1187 prime hoggs on Tuesday, where all classes were sharper on the week as the sale averaged 228.52p per kg, with SQQ hoggs at 231p. 
Export-weight hoggs from Messrs MacTaggart, Craigview, topped at £120 and 300p, with heavy Texels from Messrs Picken, Galtway, also making £120. 
Cast sheep met a strong trade to peak at £142 for Bluefaced Leicester rams from Finniness, with ewes to £128 for Suffolks from Auchenleck.
