SCOTTISH breeders were out in force for Douglas McMillan's second and final part of his Coldrochie Beef Shorthorn dispersal, buying several of the lead priced lots to include the 16,000gns sale best.

Setting a new cow and calf breed record at this event staged at United Auctions' Stirling centre, was Coldrochie Broadhooks G1, a fourth calver within the breed’s top 1%. She is by Chapelton Winsome and out of a homebred dam, while her three month-old heifer calf, Coldrochie Broadhooks M8, is by the 20,000gns Fearn Godfather. The pair sold to the Green family who are better known for their pedigree Simmental cattle based at Corskie, Fochabers, Morayshire.

Next at 9000gs was Coldrochie Leroy, a 15-month-old roan bull also by Godfather, purchased by J and J Fry, Billingshurst, West Sussex.

Gerald and Morag Smith, Drumsleed, Laurencekirk, also forked out the big bucks, going to 8000gns for Coldrochie Broadhooks D34, a roan sixth calver by LS Zeus. She changed hands with her two-month-old Godfather-sired red and white bull calf.

Breed newcomers, Thistledown Cowford Farms, Bankfoot, Perth, also went to 8000gns for Coldrochie Augusta Blossom H49, a red second calver by Chapelton Winsome which sold with her two-month-old red heifer, Coldrochie Augusta Blossom M22, by Godfather.

Thistledown Cowford Farms were one of the main buyers buying a further 11 lots to include the 15-month-old dark roan heifer, Coldrochie Augusta Blossom L8, a Godfather daughter at 7500gns.

They also went to 7000gns twice for two cow and calf lots. First was Coldrochie Secret Swift K17, a roan first calver by the 12,000gns Knockenjig Foremost and her six-week-old dark roan heifer, Coldrochie Secret Swift M37, a Lintonpriory Victory daughter.

Also making 7000gns was the Chapelton Winsome-sired second calver, Coldrochie Princess Royal H47 and her two-month-old roan heifer, Coldrochie Princess Royal M33 by Victory.

Four lots were each bid to 6500gns by Thistledown. First was Coldrochie Janet K6, a Red Star P Matrix 4N X daughter and her two-month-old red and little white heifer, Coldrochie Janet M29, by Coldrochie Juggernaut.

Next were two Fearn Godfather-sired 15 month old heifers – the red Coldrochie Broadhooks L4 and the dark roan Coldrochie Grace Beauty L7.

Thistledown’s final 6500gns call came for the stock bull, Knockenjig Foremost, a six-year-old roan by Meonhill Charlie Chaplin.

And, at 6000gns, Thistledown bought Coldrochie Catriona Rosebud F15, a red fifth calver by Colnvalley Bogart and her two-month-old red and white heifer, Coldrochie Catriona Rosebud by Foremost.

Adrian Ivory, Strathisla Farms, Blairgowrie, was another to get in on the act, forking out 6500gns for Coldrochie Grace Beauty K16, a roan first calver by Godfather and her six-week-old red bull, Coldrochie M39 by Juggernaut.

Bulls sold well too, with Jimmy and George Irving, Mountbenger, Selkirk, giving 6000gns for the 13-month-old roan Foremost son, Coldrochie Lincoln .
