The decision to cease milking at Nursey Fields Farm, Monyash, Bakewell, and disperse the low input Nurseryfields commercial dairy herd saw no fewer than 11 lots break the 2000gns bracket.
The sale, staged on behalf of FS Wooley, at Beeston Auction Mart, saw a top price of 2350gns paid for a second calved cow by the stock bull Shirewood Super Magnum, which sold giving 34litres per day having calved in April, to JG and CA Bayley of Nuneaton.
The same buyers also went to 2300gns for Nurseryfields Magnum Fetiche, a similarly aged cow that calved down in February and had recently been served to Vortex Lexxi Foxx. She was giving 38litres per day.
Warrington producers, H Sinker and Sons, paid 2250gns for Nurseryfields Magnum Teardrop 3, another that sold fresh in April with her second and giving 33 litres per day.
Heifer calves were keenly sought after peaking at 700gns for an eight-month-old daughter of Lineman, with 650gns paid on two occasions – for a Spiderman daughter and an eight-month-old heifer by Nurseryfields Santana Evan. Topping the in-calf heifers at 1380gns was a Bidlea Izunio daughter that sold five months due to a Hereford bull.
Averages: 105 cows and milking heifers (including 40 heifer calves at £414.49) £1420.64; 29 served heifers Auctioneers: Wright Marshall.
