The long trip from Fife to Penrith, proved fruitful for Basil and Adam Lawson, when they produced a new centre record price for a maiden Dairy Shorthorn heifer at 1580gns.

The father and son duo from North Cassingray, Largoward, led the way with Lisnamulligan Princess Anne 14, a grand-daughter of the 2009 Highland Show champion, by Durham Aristocrat. First in her class at the pre-sale show, she was knocked down to B Blenkharn, Ravenstonedale.

The Lismulligan herd also produced the second and third prize maidens in Lisnamulligan Tulipa 6 and Lisnamulligan Lady Laura 6, which made 890gns to B Donald, Dalston and 900gns to G and B Bell, Crewe, respectively. The Lawson also received 920gns for the similarly aged heifer, Lisnamulligan Dewdrop 13, purchased by Oxton Farms, Tadcaster.

The champion, selected by Staffordshire breeder Martin Tidmarsh, was GA and DW Dent's cow in milk, Winbrook V1 154, which later sold for the top price of 1720gns to the judge.

The reserve, the heifer in milk, Strickley Strawberry II made 1600gns to JH to B Donald, Dalston.
