Scottish breeders, Raymond Irvine and Jenni McAllister had a field day at the two-day Blacknose Beauties show and sale at Carlisle, last week, producing the supreme champion and sale leader at 10,000gns, while also selling the next two top priced lots.

The couple who are based at Mains of Inverourie, Tomintoul, Ballindalloch, first triumphed to lift the tri-colour at the pre-sale show on the Friday with the ram, Highland Eric a shearling son of the imported ram, Highland Montana, which was crowned supreme overall by Swiss judges, Josef Eyer and Stefan Schnidrig.

The following day, they sold the similarly aged ram, Highland Egbert, by Highland Nelson, another imported tup, for 10,000gns to Christine Reed, buying on behalf of the New Zealand Valais Blacknose Sheep Society.

The duo who were one of the first to import the breed from Switzerland into the UK, also received 5000gns and 4000gns for the breeding females Highland Diamond and Highland Deedee respectively. Both are 2016-born ewes by imported sires and again sold to the New Zealand breed society.

Adding to the celebrations, Highland Faye a gimmer also from Mains of Inverourie, made 2400gns, selling down to Wales with SD and D Roberts, Llanwrtyd Wells, Powys.

Tim Dunne who own the Westmorland flock from Appleby, Cumbria, was another in the money with sales at 3500gns and 3200gns. The former, Westmorland Follie Bergere was bought by Charlotte Wemyss, Kirkcaldy, while the latter, Westmorland Fred headed home with V Carter, Lockerbie.

Other notable sales included Henry and Emily Duncan's Whitehall Esther, a ewe lamb which made 2600gns to Paul McMillan, Newton Stewart, and Jamie Wood's similarly aged Prendwick Esther from Prendwick, Whittingham, Alnwick, realised 2400gns to Adam Kirkbride, Whitehaven.

* For the first time, special rosettes were awarded to the sheep that graded with maximum points by the judges. First was J and J Simonini's Moorahill Elvis, with other sheep receiving them being Shoemaker Elsa, Deepdale Florrie, Kinneff Flora and Swiss Findon Faye. Flocks attaining maximum points were Raymond Irvine and Jenni McAllister's Highland flock; Sue and Tim Dunne, Westmorland; Jamie Wood, Prendwick and Gerallt Jones, Snowdonia.
