LAMBS weighed 2kg to 3kg lighter on the year but sellers nevertheless received between £2 and £5 per head more at United Auctions' sale of 8002 store lambs and feeding sheep on Saturday.

They sale included the annual show of Blackface wedder lambs which was judged by Willie Dunlop, Elmscleugh, who backed his decision to buy the first prize pen from Achnaba for £58 per head.

The second prize pen from Tullochcan made £51 and the third prize pen from Tayvallich Estate realised £45.50 as the Blackie section cashed in to average £37.35 per head or 128.6p per kg. Topping the Blackie entry at £62 was a pen from Invernahyle while another from Inchgarth made 179p.

Overall, the sale of store lambs levelled at £39.98 (+£3.48 on the year) or 149.2p (+15.7p), having been topped by Cheviots at £73.50 from Brackenridge and 193p from Blackmount.
