STRONG females sold well at a Lleyn Sheep Society sale at United Auctions, Stirling on Monday, where a top price of £170 per head was paid on two occasions for pens of five gimmers from Dumfries-shire breeders, Hamish and Jim Goldie.
Both lots were purchased by N and S Caul, Kirkton of Auchterhouse.
The duo sold the majority of top priced gimmers and also produced the lead priced shearling ram, Lochar Genius, a Plasucha Chief son, that made 650gns selling to S and J Corcoran, Newton Stewart.
Leading the ewe lamb trade at £90 per head was a pen of 45 from Tom and Ian Walling, Farmstock Genetics, Selkirk, purchased by Kirkpatrick Farms, Dumfries, who also went to £85 for the second prize pen of lambs from D and B Henderson, Stonehaven.
Stirling-based Andrew Robb, went to £88 for a pen of five ewe lambs from JR Grahams and Partners, Biggar.
By the end of the day, gimmers averaged £140; ewe lambs at £87 and rams at £420.
