Blues top UA multi-breeds at £2600 – twice

Bluefaced Leicester shearlings enjoyed the best of the day's trading cashing in at £662.85 up £17.17 on the year, followed by Texel shearlings at £474.88 (-£67.79); Suffolks at £433.18 (+£59.28) and Beltex at £346.15 (-£100.70).

Ram lambs sold well with Bluefaced Leicester and Texels both showing improvements on the year at £397.78 (+£105.11) and £340.59 (+£2.28), respectively.

First to hit £2600 was a Blue shearling from Jamie Pirie, Blarnavaid, purchased by Northern Ireland breeder, D Woodburn, Co Antrim. Later, Katreen Malone, Pitcairn, received the same money for a Blue when her best sold in a two-way split to J More, Townhead and A McArthur of Cretlevane and Blanebank Farms.

Topping the accredited section at £1200 was a Texel shearling from W Dunlop and Son, Elmscleugh, purchased by Colin Little, East Bracklinn.

Lead Suffolk was a shearling from J Wight and Son, Carwood, bought by Messrs MacGregor, Binn Farm at £1100.

Non-accredited rams peaked at £950 on two occasions for Texels shearlings from J More, Townhead, purchased by A McArthur, Cretlevane and Messrs Walker, Balnaboth, respectively.

The society show and sale of Beltex sheep saw trade hit a top of 1700gns for the best from Alastair Maclean's Tiree flock from the island of Tiree. It was purchased by WJ and EC Stevenson, Coilavoulin, Pitlochry.

Three sold for 900gns to include two from Ian Reid's Osprey flock and another from Jimmy Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill. The first two were knocked down to G and M Porter, Carrabus, Bridgend, Islay and J Miller, Drumharrow, Luncarty, Perth. The latter was bought by J Little, Wester Cambushinnie, Callander.
