Substitute ewe lambs led the way at the Blue Texel Blinders show and sale at Carlisle producing the top two prices at 2200gns and 1700gns.

The champion topped the trade selling to the Fyfin Blues flock of Janet Carson, Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland. This was Ivanhoe Livestock's No two entry from Wyvil Grange, Hunton, Bedale, North Yorkshire, a lamb by Whatmore Walnut out of Hackney Yum Yum.

Minutes later, the second prize ewe lamb and reserve overall from Paul and Christine Tippetts made 1700gns selling to Messrs Beardsley, Ashbourne, Derbyshire. She boasts imported genetics on both sides.

David Alexander's Millside flock from Galston, Ayrshire, topped the gimmers with an 800gns sale to G Troup, Shaggart, Inverurie. His purchase is by Sams Yoyo and out of a home-bred ewe by a home-bred Millside sire.

The same home also produced the best amongst the males when a shearling ram by a Beili Blues son of Jonsland Wifi, made 1100gns to Messrs Noble, Penicuik, Mid Lothian. The dam, a home-bred ewe is by a Craigalbert sire.

The Tippetts were back in the money amongst the males selling their first prize ram lamb and reserve male for 1000gns. Their lamb, by a home-bred son of Joe's Alvin, out of a ewe by an imported Turbo Blue ram was knocked down to Messrs Roberts, Llangymin, Carmarthenshire.

Jimmy Orr's Walston Bandit, by a Nantyderri ram out of a Millside ewe, from Wester Walston, Carnwath, topped the shearling trade at 900gns. Second in his class at the pre-sale show, he was knocked down to Messrs Butterfield, Barnsley.
