A LIMOUSIN cross heifer from Messrs Telfer and Claxton, Newton High House, secured the championship ticket and went on to sell for the top price of £2600 at Harrison and Hetherington's annual special sale of 804 suckled calves at Borderway Mart, Carlisle.

The heifer, which is by Mereside Godolphin, out of a pure British Blue cow, sold up to Aberdeenshire with Blair Duffton from Huntly. Newton High House also topped the bullock trade at £2000 for a Limousin cross which sold to AJ Forsyth, Newton Stewart.

Scooping the reserve honours was a British Blue heifer from Messrs Harrison, Grange Hall, which later sold for £1600 to J Wareham, Sussex. She is by a home-bred Limousin cross British Blue bull and bred out of a pure Limousin cow.

In all, the 804 calves cashed in at £1011.43 (-£19 on the year).
