A cracking show of 261 Bluefaced Leicester rams and females forward for Harrison and Hetherington's annual sale at Kirkby Stephen, was topped at £11,000 by a ram lamb.

The lamb, from KA Brown and Sons, who own the Asby Hall flock at Great Asby, Appleby, is by the £24,000 K1 Smearsett tup bought in a three-way split at Hawes last year, and sold to Martyn Archer, Carry House, Hexham.

Judge R Harker, Grayrigg Hall, found his champion winner in a ram lamb from Neil Marston's Highberries flock from Cockermouth, and later went on to back his decision, forking out £7000 for it, in partnership with R Hargreaves, Meadowbank. He is by the G1 Highberries Highlander.

Mr Marston's run of 30 Bluefaced Leicester lambs averaged £2624.

The reserve champion was the second prize winner to the champion from Messrs Rawsthorne, Scargill, Carnforth, which made £1000 to TJ Lee and Son, Hackford, Hexham.

Averages: 166 ram lambs, £1152.69; 30 shearling rams, £955.56; five aged rams, £712.50; seven females, £920.00.
