Five bulls, £2646 (-£185.50 for 10 fewer sold).

MANY bulls failed to meet their reserve and went unsold at a sale of Aberdeen-Angus at Carlisle, where the champion from Andrew Mylius' St Fort herd at Newport on Tay topped the entry at 3000gns.

St Fort Pipe Major, a 19-month-old brought out by Richard Rettie, is backed by easy calving genetics, being by Wedderlie Fantastic – a 6500gns purchase when he stood senior champion at Stirling Bull Sales – and out of the Fordafourie Kris daughter, St Fort Primula Mary. He heads to a new home near Sorbie, Newton Stewart, with Messrs Ferguson.

Two sold for 2700gns apiece including Kingholm Dictator from M and HD Currie, Skewbridge, Mouswald, Dumfries. This Liley Eastern son, out of a Catrionas MacAllan daughter, sold to Messrs Peek, Whithorn, Newton Stewart.

Messrs Watson, Morpeth, Northumberland, bought the other 2700gns bull, the reserve champion from John Walsh, Walmersley, Bury. Buckhurst Lord Hunter is by Rawburn Boss Hogg and out of a Blelack Blackstock-bred mother.
