A EWE lamb topped the trade at the Marwood family's Foulrice flock's Celebration Sale of Charollais females held a Skipton on Saturday, when it sold for 2650gns.

The sale, which was staged to mark Charles' 70th birthday, together with wife Valerie and son Stehen, saw gimmers average £565.07 and ewe lambs level at £564.61.

Sale leader for Charles,Valerie and son Stephen's flock based at Whenby, York, was a daughter of the high index ram, Hyde Radio5Live, out of a Lowerye Neil's Favourite-sired ewe. With an overall index of 409.63, she sold in a two-way split to Charles and Helen Sercombe of the Dalby flock at Frisby on the Wreake, near Melton Mowbray, and Stuart Dunkley of the Hyde flock, Northampton.

Next best was 1700gns paid for Foulrice Stellar, a gimmer by the Dalby Mount Aloe-sired Foulrice Stellar, out of a Neils Favourite ewe. Breed champion and inter-breed champion at Kilnsey Show in August, she sold scanned carrying triples to Dalby Sherman to David Roberts' Boyo flock at Leasowes, Kenley, Shrewsbury.

In all, a total of 88 females were forward from members of the British Charollais Sheep Society’s Northern Region, producing an overall average of £565. Selling at 600gns was a ewe lamb from David Dennis of the Silton flock at Over Silton, Thirsk.
