Averages: Texel – 59 gimmers, £391.70; five ewes, £432.60; four ewe lambs, £241.50. Beltex – four gimmers, £349.12. Bleu Du Maine – three ewe lambs, £343. Blue Texel – five ewe lambs, £259.66; five ewes, £392.70; eight gimmers, £346.50. Suffolk – eight gimmers, £337.31; six ewe lambs, £273. Charollais – 10 gimmers, £386.40; six ewe lambs, £163.33.

PRICES peaked at 1200gns at the Winter Warmers sale of 252 pedigree sheep at Newark, last weekend, when a Texel gimmer from Richard Wilson's Eden Valley flock, Appleby, Cumbria, sold to R Mawr and E Benge, Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire.

Following her at 700gns was the best of the Texel aged ewes, from Welsh breeder, Iolo Prys Jones’ Llangwm flock. Sired by Knap Vinnie Jones, this 2015-born entry is out of a dam by Kelso Picasso and sold having been AI’d to Milnbank Brisbane, to Chris Beck, Halesworth, Suffolk.

The small but select offering of Beltex peaked at 600gns for a ewe lamb from Clare Morris’ Clarison flock. Clarison Diva, a Dooley Amazing daughter out of a Whatmore Temper-sired dam, was knocked down to Holly Lutkin, Norfolk.

The 600gns price tag was also matched by two Blue Texels with the first being a 2015-born ewe from Norfolk breeder, Will Abram. His Beetley Bee, a daughter of a Nantyderri sire out of a dam by a Craigalbert ram, sold in lamb to Beili Blues Ali to J Jones and sons, Market Harborough, Leicestershire.

Selling for the same money was a gimmer from R Mawr, Premier Britney. She is by CJ’s Yahoo out of a Whatmore dam and was knocked down to M Atkins, Briston, Norfolk.

Suffolks sold to 380gns and Charollais to 440gns.
