Gimmers from Robert Rennie's Robex flock from Attonburn, Kelso, proved the star attraction at Kelso Christmas Cracker sale of in-lamb Texels at Carlisle, producing the majority of lead prices and the top average at £1934.10 for 25.

In all Mr Rennie, sold eight of the top 10 highest prices to include the top two sellers at 6000gns and 4500gns, with his lead six selling across the Irish Sea to former pedigree Suffolk breeder, Gary Beacom, Fivemiletown, Co Fermanagh.

First on his list at 6000gns was a Teiglum Stifler gimmer bred from a Tweed ewe by Millar's Monty, bought from Neil Crighton, Loanend. A full sister to 2700gns, 2500gns, 2100gns and 1700gns gimmers and a full brother to a £2000 ram, she sold served to Duhonw You Belter – the 8600gns top priced tup bought at Builth Wells, last year which boasts an index of more than 500.

Her full sister made 2800gns again to Mr Beacom.

All of the Robex gimmers sold due to You Belter, with the 4500gns entry being a Brijon You Beauty daughter bred from a home-bred ewe by Teiglum Stifler.

Brijon genetics were behind the next three highest priced Robex gimmers, all of which sold to Mr Beacom. This included two by Brijon Yowser out of home-bred ewes by Teiglum Stifler that sold at 3000gns and 2800gns.

Also selling at 3000gns was a Brijon Yankee-sired gimmer bred from a College ewe by Beeford Pimpernel that sold for 4000gns at a previous Robex reduction sale.

Two from Robex then made 2600gns with the first, a full sister to the previous lot, selling to Messrs MacNiven, Glenfarg, Perth. The second, by Brijon Yankee, and out of a ewe by Teiglum Stifler that made 1700gns at a previous Robex sale, was knocked down to Messrs Jack and Sons, Muir of Ord, Ross-shire.

Jack and Tom Arnott, also had a good day, selling 19 gimmers from their Haymount flock from Kelso, at £1083.16 from a lead bid of 3800gns paid for a gimmer by Auldhouseburn Warlord, bred from a ewe by Scrogton Powerhouse. She is bred from the same line as £4000, £3500 and £3000 rams, along with Haymount Vavavoom which sired the 2017 Kelso champion that made £7000. Esmor Evans, Mold, Clywd, forked out the cash for this big girl which sold served to Plasucha Boss Man.

Top price for John Elliot was 2800gns paid for the highest index gimmer in his Roxburgh flock. This was a Kimbolton Va Va Voom entry out of a ewe by Goldies Supreme. She sold served to Haddo Balvenie and with an index of 522 to Messrs Hodge, Moberley, Cheshire.
