NO fewer than 26 lots traded at four-figure prices at the Longtown Ladies evening sale of in-lamb females and yeld hoggs on Tuesday, where a catalogued entry of 199 head saw Texel gimmers from Alan Blackwood, Auldhouseburn, Muirkirk, lead at 3400gns and 3000gns.

Sale leader was an unshown gimmer by the privately purchased Clinterty Yosemite Sam, out of a Strathbogie Untouchable dam from the flock's top Cowal family. She sold scanned for a pair of lambs to the 125,000gns Rhaeadr Best of the Best, to telephone bidder Steve McCollam, buying for his Carmavy flock from Northern Ireland.

Mr Blackwood, a first time consignor at the sale then sold his fifth gimmer for 3000gns to Messrs Oare, for their Coach House flock from Flintshire, Wales. A full sister to the sale leader, she sold due to the 130,000gns Sportsmans A star.

The pre-sale Texel champion, a gimmer from Steven Renwick's Craig Douglas flock from Peebles, selected by judge, Bryden Nicolson, Duns, made 2800gns selling to Nick Woodmass of the Harene flock. She is sired by Haddo Whiskey Galore and changed hands scanned for a single to Knock Bantastic.

Texel ewes from the dispersal of Craig Ridley's Cumbria-based Haltcliffe flock also proved popular, averaging £921 for 37. They also sold to 2800gns for a Forkins Warrior-sired ewe out of a Cambwell Stewart daughter bred from the same family as the 16,000gns Jaguar and Jackpot. She was knocked down, carrying a pair to Hexel Apex, to Gordon Gray for his Selkirk-based Ettrick flock.

Haltcliffe’s run continued with a 2015-born ewe by Sportsmans Viper selling at 2600gns to Esmor Evans, Mold, followed at 2300gns for a 2014-born daughter of Topside Supreme scanned with twins to Hexel Apex, purchased by Bryden Nicolson.

Another 2016-born entry from Haltcliffe, made 1900gns. She is also by Forkins Warrior, in lamb to Apex and sold to Messrs Pritchard, Evistones, who purchased five from the same home.

Welsh breeder, Rob Bennett, Plasucha, was also well rewarded for his first trip to Longtown, when he took the reserve championship with an Eden Valley Wiz Kid gimmer that realised 1500gns selling to Ross Sizmur, Devon, who also bought another Wiz Kid gimmer in lamb to Plasucha All Star from the same home for 1700gns.

Dutch Texels were again keenly contested with Giles Pyman’s Thacka flock enjoying much pre-sale interest. They were topped at 1400gns and 1200gns, with both selling to Stuart Wood for his Aberdeenshire-based Woodies flock.

A small but quality show of Bluefaced Leicester females met keen demand peaking at 1200gns for a ewe hogg from Allan Wight and son Ben's Midlock flock from Crawford. She is by a K1 Shafthill, out of a G2 Marriforth ewe and was knocked down to Messrs Anderson, Mid Harrietsfield.
