Prices peaked at £1900 on two occasions at the January Month End Dairy Sale at Beeston, which saw 37 head of cattle forward to include entries from the Western Holstein Club's Focus Milk sale.

Sale leader was a calved heifer from Ray Brown and Partners of Holmes Chapel. Bidlea Bullion Faith 3, by Smiddiehill Gold Bullion, calved mid-December and sold giving 36.8kg per day to Adrian Jones of Garthmyl.

The fresh second calver, Bidlea Ramsey Lyme GP82-2yr, from the same home, also made £1900 to Messrs Jones. She is sired by the homebred McCormick son, Bidlea Ramsey, and changed hands sold giving 46kg per day.

Averages for the overall quality forward was pleasing according to auctioneer Simon Lamb, who said cows of all breeds, including faults levelled at £1725, with heifers in the same bracket at £1511.33.
