The Stronach family's Islavale herd scored at hat-trick for the second part of United Auctions' Bull Sales at Stirling, producing their third consecutive February championship with a Simmental.

Taking Stewart, son Stewart and his son Michael, straight to the top this time was the senior champion, Islavale Islander 17, selected by the judge, Steven Sandison, Orkney. Their show stopper is the third son sold by Curaheen Giant, a bull whose first two sons averaged in excess of £14,000, out of Islavale Briana, one of the top cows in the herd by Popes Laird.

There was more success to come for the 100-cow pedigree herd from Berryleys, Keith, which runs alongside a similiar number of commercial Simmental cows, when the Stronachs scooped the reserve junior honours with Islavale Ironclad 17, by the Curaheen Wakeman son retained for breeding, Islavale Echo.

It was a dream come true for Geoff and Kate Anderson too, when their first Simmental bull bagged the junior championship and the reserve overall. Leading the way for the couple who attend to the Dunbar family's 260-cow commercial herd at Pitgaveny, Elgin, was Woodhall Instinct 17, an October 2017-born bull bought alongside his dam at the Woodhall dipsersal for 5000gns. He is by Islavale Frontier and out of Woodhall Eva, a Steinadler daughter.

Robert and Hazel McNee have enjoyed some cracking sales with their Limousin and Luing cattle in recent weeks and their success continued when they paraded their sole Simmental bull to lift the intermediate championship. Finlarg Icon 17, the first bull sold by the privately purchased Auchorachan Winger son, Team Drambuie 12, is bred from Dirnanean Lotti, a Halenook Vargner-sired cow bought at the Dirnanean dispersal for 4500gns.

Ross King and his father Alex, enjoyed their best day in the show ring too, taking the reserve senior honours with Wolfstar Irn-Bru, a 22-month-old ET-bred bull by the AI sire, Curaheen Bandit and out of Wolfstar Flame, regarded as the best cow in the 40-cow herd from Wolfstar, Haddington.

Taking the equivalent amongst the intermediates was Kilbride Farm Ireland 17, an August 2017-born bull from Billy Robson and sons Michael and Norman, who are celebrating 40 years selling bulls here. Their best, is a son of Crugmelyn Brenin 10, a bull bought privately at the English National Show as a junior that bred the 22,000gns Kilbride Farm Foreman. His dam is Kilbride Farm Eunice, a Seaview Prince Charming daughter and full sister to the 10,000gns Kilbride Farm Chieftain, purchased by Colin Inglis.
