A large ringside of friends, family and breed enthusiasts was forward for the dispersal of Jane Jackson's well-known Ericstane North Country Cheviot flock from Moffat, which in previous years has produced numerous show winners and big priced sellers at the ram sale at Lockerbie.

The flock, which became pedigree in 1995, sold off the first of the females at the breed society sale at Lockerbie, last month where prices peaked at £2000 and £1800 with the remainder sold at Longtown, on Tuesday.

In all, 550 North Country Cheviot ewes and hoggs were cashed along with 160 Texel cross ewes and ewe hoggs, brought out with assistance of shepherd Geordie Braid.

Top price was £700 paid for a North Country Cheviot park-type ewe hogg purchased by Ormerley Livestock, Derbyshire.

North Country Cheviot park-type gimmers peaked at £220 paid by Lancashire breeder, Jim Holden, Summerseat.

Lairg-type North Country Cheviot ewes hit a top of £210 purchased by R Mackay, Rothbury, Northumberland, while Texel cross ewes and ewe hoggs sold to £205 and £110 to average £162 and £108, respectively.
