John and Mandy Smith-Jackson, continued on their winning ways at Harrison and Hetherington's prize show and sale of store and show potential cattle at Kirkby Stephen, on Monday, selling the top two highest priced calves at £3400 and £3200.
The couple from High Town, Haltwhistle, first secured the overall championship with an 11-month-old British Blue cross heifer by the privately purchased Tweedale Guinness. She is out of a pure-bred Limousin cow and sold for £3200 to the judge, Andrew Dickinson, Ashbourne.
Minutes later, they superceded that price, selling an 11-month-old black Limousin cross heifer by Shire Apollo, out of a British Blue cross cow by Bluegrass Cyclone, for the top price of £3400, to David Barker, buying on behalf of a client.
And, at £2200, their third and final entry, a 10-month-old British Blue cross steer also by Tweeddale Guinness, made £2200.
Andrew Marston, Easegill Head, Kirkby Stephen, lifted the reserve honours with a black Limouin cross heifer by Plumtree Fantastic, out of a Limousin cross cow by Soleil. It made £2100.
By the end of the day, the 30 show calves averaged £1507.70, with the 12 prize winning heifers commanding a premium to level at £1790.
Outwith the show calves, the sale of 676 store cattle saw steers balance out at £941.35 with heifers at £941.29.
