Aberdeenshire dog trialist and sheep farmer, George Simpson, Huntly, made his mark at the Moffat Sheepdog Society spring sale of 34 working collie dogs at Moffat, selling the lead priced lot at 5900gns.

The sale, staged by C and D Auctions was topped by Celt, a 21/2-year-old dog by DW Davies' Prince out of H Hughes' Nan. A winner at two previous trials, Celt was knocked down to Messrs Crowther, Upperwood, Lancs.

Northern Ireland handlers also came up with the goods, with Anthony McKeegan, Ballymena, selling Kipp at 3500gns back across the Irish Sea to Shannon Conn, Co Antrim. This entry is by B McAllister's Spot and out of AJ McKeegan's Meg.

Later, Seamus Gormley of Co Derry-based Kilcreen Sheep Dog Centre, sold Kilcreen Don, a three-year-old dog at 3000gns to Messrs Hickson, Jedburgh.

And, at 2700gns, Patrick McKeever, Martinstown, sold Molly, a rising two-year-old bitch to Stuart Grant, Ullapool.

By the end of the day, field dogs averaged £1765.95.
