JUDGE June Dowie, Ballantrae, certainly had her work cut out for her at the sixth Anniversary Show and Sale of continental cattle at Wigton, which saw more than 600 head forward.

Her choice of champion, a 12-month-old bullock from Messrs Robinson, Bog Hall, later topped the sale at £1600, while the reserve, a similarly aged heifer from Messrs Pears, Fellside, made £1500.

Also included was the Young Person's Calf Wintering competition, which saw Nathan Grainger, Kiln Close, win both the champion and reserve honours with a steer and heifer, respectively. Both were purchased by David Barker at £1400 each.

However, the overall was shared between Mikey Wanning and Christina Coulthard, both of whom scored most points overall.

Christina Coulthard took the award for profit gain, with Amy Wilson winning best turned out handler and Mikey Wanning taking the equivalent in the under 15s.
