The Beltex Sheep Society made a welcome return to Newark Livestock Market for the Spring Selection Sheep Fair where Scottish entries led the trade at 1150gns and 1100gns.

The event which also included a society sale of Blue Texels, saw Dumfriess-shire Beltex breeder, Ali Jackson, lead the way with Edenfauld Almond, a four-year-old Quarrymount TNT daughter, bred by John Metcalfe. Bred from the Airyolland Nailer-sired Edenfauld Rosebel, she made 1150gns selling to Joshua Jack, Shenley Brook End, Milton Keynes, along with her Belvoir View Chaos View-sired January-born ram lamb at foot, TipTop Eggy.

The same buyer later bought a pair of January-born ewe lambs with their recipient dam for 650gns from Mr Jackson's Tiptop flock based at Maulscastle Farm, Cummertrees, Annan. Tiptop Ellie ET and Tiptop Ebony ET are daughters of Belvoir View Chaos, out of Edenfauld Anita, a Matt’s Wonka daughter.

Stuart Wood’s Woodies flock from Woolhillock, Skene, Aberdeenshire, also came up with the goods, selling five of the next eight highest priced lots. Tops here was 1100gns paid for the ewe hogg, Woodies Diva. Sired by the 8000gns Woodies Beyond Limits and out of the Bishops Arnold daughter, Bishops Blue Eyes, she heads back up north to a new home at Miller Farms, Midmar, Inverurie.

Two Woodies females made 850gns to include a pair of ewe lambs, purchased by MR Pickford, Mersham, Ashford. Woodies Exot ET and Woodies Ella ET, a ram and ewe lamb pairing are out of one of the flock’s best import ewes and by the 5000gns Bailey Brook CR7. They sold with their recipient dam.

Heading in the opposite direction, Woodies Daze, an ET-bred ewe hogg made the same money, selling to SW Robertson, Dufftown, Morayshire. She is by Airyolland Weapon and out of the imported ewe, Notice de Quatre Vents.

Mr Robertson also forked out 650gns for Woodies Daffodil ET, which is out of a V/D Harlembois ewe which also produced the first prize ewe lamb at last year’s Royal Highland Show. Her sire is Cothi Champ.

At 550gns was Woodies Disco Diva ET, which heads to Monyash, Bakewell, Derbyshire, with MJ Wells and Son. Her pedigree features imported bloodlines with the sire being Double O Seven.

Richard and Rachel Sharp saw entries from their Belvoir View flock at Top Farm, Eaton, Grantham, peak at 800gns twice. First was Belvoir View Chrissy, a Belvoir View Ace of Spades-sired ewe which changes hands with a pair of lambs by Callacrag Cowboy at foot. The buyer was GB Howsam, Stickford, Boston.

Matching that when selling to D and A Fenwick, Knaith, Gainsborough, was the ewe hogg, Belvoir View Applejack ET. She is by Belvoir View Apple Jack and out of a home-bred ewe by Clary Twitter.

Leading the Blue Texel entry at 650gns was Premier Buttercup, from Lincolnshire breeder, Robert Mawer, Corner Farm, Horsington. This gimmer by CJ's Yahoo, out of Whatmore Xotic, sold with ewe lamb at foot by CJ's Balmoral, to RB Davies, Llanfairth, Abergele, Wales.
