Wigtownshire show calf enthusiasts, Alistair and Liz Vance, Bridgehouse, Newton Stewart, produced the champion winner and top priced lot at £1410 at Harrison and Hetherington's May show and sale of 1300 store cattle at Carlisle.

Judge Andrew Graham, Wigton, presented the top award to a Limousin cross from Bridgehouse, which later sold to Declan Foley, Capheaton.

Dumfriesshire breeder, Bruce Goldie, Townfoot, produced the reserve, in the second prize heifer, a pure-bred Limousin which made £1330 to Roger Webster, Ormskirk.

Top price amongst the bullocks was £1340 paid for Limousins from J Hunter and Sons, Steel Farm, Bellingham.

Some 35 12-14-month-old bullocks and heifers averaged £1193.85.

The same day also saw 396 weaned cattle to include 208 bulls forward which met buoyant demand selling to £1210 for a 13-month-old Limousin bull from Kenneth Hall, Baggarah Farm.
