A new centre breed record price of 10,000gns was achieved at Skipton Auction Mart’s Spring show and sale of pedigree Limousins, last week.

Setting the trade alight for local husband and wife breeders, John and Claire Mason, who run the Oddacres herd in Embsay, was the yearling bull, Oddacres Oswald.

Runner-up as a calf in the 2018 North East Limousin Breeders herd competition, this youngster is fully French-bred being sired by Linzo – a grandson of Objat bought from his breeders Valérie and Christophe Rochard, in France as a three-month-old calf – out of the Ducasse daughter, Idee.

Oswald fell to Richard Sandham and family, buying for their British Blue commercial herd at Town End Farm, East Carlton, near Yeadon.

The Masons also picked up the reserve championship with Oddacres Otto, an April, 2018-born son of the French sire Gallois, out of the Scottish-bred cow, Homebyres Elitelady. Otto was shown by daughter Annabel Mason and went on to sell for 3900gns to the Ryder family in Haverah Park, Harrogate.

Pre-sale champion was Procters Nitro, an ET by Wilodge Cerebus bred from the Haltcliffe DJ daughter, Procters Gwen, from Procters Farm, Slaidburn. This intermediate bull later sold for the second top price of 5800gns to D and A Livestock, Haverah Park, Harrogate.

The same home also produced bull sales at 5000gns and 4800gns. Tops was Procters National, another intermediate ET bred bull this time from the Objat daughter Glenrock Diamante and sired by Haltcliffe Dancer. National sold down to Wales with Messrs Herdman and Son, Builth Wells.

Selling at 4800gns was another from the Procters Gwen flush but to Ampertaine Foreman. Procters Nijinski, was knocked down to Alan Lodge, who farms on Malham Moor.

Another eye-catcher at 5000gns was Cropmel Naughtyboy, from Clare Cropper and John Mellin, who farm locally in Long Preston. Their naturally born 25-month-old bull is by Plumtree Fantastic, out of Toppesfield Ivory, and sold to BG Price, Hay-on-Wye, Wales.

Averages: 13 senior bulls £3272; 31 intermediate bulls, £2873; 27 junior bulls £2463; 26 maiden heifers £1246; four cows in calf and or with calves at foot to £2152.
