A Hereford bull led the other beef breeds forward for the Pedigree Beef Day sale at Carlisle, selling for 3000gns.
The sale which included Lincoln Red, South Devon and Salers was topped by Graham Shepherd's Moorside 1 Romeo, the pre-sale reserve breed champion, purchased by Messrs Capstick, Beckfoot, Lowgill, Kendal.
Leading the Lincoln Reds at 1800gns was T and K Madden's Ballyvaddy Warlord, an 18-month-old bull from Ballyvaddy, Glencloy, Ballymena, purchased by Fife breeder, Andrew Mylius, St Fort, Newpot on Tay. Breed champion, Warlord is by Cockerinton Earl and out of Harrington Marigold by Manor Frank.
Salers sold to 2800gns for the 25-month-old bull, Rednock Mars, a son of Rigel Officer, out of Rigel Hostess from Malcolm Pye, Rednock Estate, Port of Menteith. The buyers were Messrs Anderson, Eddleston, Peebleshire.
South Devons hit a top of 1050gns on three occasions for 18-month-old heifers from S and K Darnbrook, Newcastleton.
Averages: Lincoln Reds – Six maiden heifers, £1060.50. South Devon – Three heifers, £1050.00. Hereford – Four females, £800.63.
