All classes met a firm enquiry at Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale of 123 store cattle, five adult head of breeding cattle, 12 OTM cattle and 746 sheep.

Bullocks averaged 215.6p having sold to 295.8p per kg for a pair of 240kg Charolais crosses from Moy, Banavie, and £980 for a 520kg Limousin cross from Balmaglaster, Spean Bridge.

Heifers levelled at 194.3p, peaking at 263.6p for a 330kg Limousin cross from Keil Farm, Ardgour and £910 for a 440kg Simmental cross from Balmacaan Farm, Drumnadrochit.

Top price amongst the breeding cattle was £1240 paid for a Simmental cross cow with Limousin calf from Arderry, Strontian.

The sheep trade was topped at £130 twice, this included Texel cross ewes with Suffolk lambs from Balmaglaster, Spean Bridge and a Cheviot ewe with Cheviot lamb from Benhaint, Kilchoan.

Store lambs peaked at £81 for a Cheviot from 12 Aultgrishan, Gairloch and feeding ewes hit a top of £70 for Suffolk crosses from Balmaglaster.

Bullocks and heifers both sold to a top price of £1010 for a 481kg Shorthorn cross from Craigroy, Edderton and a 475kg British Blue cross from Ballagan, Inverness, respectively at Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale of store cattle.

Top price per kg was 256.7p paid for a 335kg Blonde D’Aquitaine cross bullock from Penick, with the total averaging 212.5p. Heifers sold to 253.6p for a 280kg Limousin cross from Leabost, Glenhinnisdale, to level at 207.3p.

Young bulls averaged 193.8p having sold to 203.8p for a 265kg British Blue cross from 2 Cragganvallie, Kiltarlity and £760 for a pair of 375kg Simmental crosses from Druim Torrach Croft, Isle of North Uist.

Limousins led the way in most sections at Craig Wilson’s weekly sale which saw 209 bullocks, 42 Friesian bullocks and 206 heifers forward.

Top prices amongst the bullocks were £1320 paid for an entry from Parkmill while another from Glendoune made 252p, to average 209.6p. Heifers peaked at £1250 from Deaconhill and 237.7p from Maxwelston, to level at 203.5p.

Friesian bullocks averaged 151.9p having sold to £1250 from Deaconhill and 237.7p from Maxwelston.

A small show of 121 ewes and lambs were also forward which met a buoyant demand with a top price of £176 paid on two occasions for Mule hoggs with single Roussin lambs from Messrs Dunlop, Glengennet.

A strong trade was seen throughout at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 309 store cattle and eight young calves, where British Blue bullocks led the pence per kg section selling at 286.4p per kg from Westerton, Echt.

Top price per head amongst the bullocks was £1300 paid twice for a 622kg Simmental cross from Denhead of Muiresk, Turriff and for a 602kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Craintack, Balmedie.

Heifers peaked at 243.5p for British Blue crosses from Carron Mains, Aberlour and £1340 for a 674kg Simmental cross from Ferniebrae, Lonmay.

Overall, bullocks and heifers averaged 224.8p and 206.2p respectively, whilst bulls sold to 221.9p and £1065 for a 480kg British Blue from Wrangham, Colpy.

A strong trade was also seen amongst the 460 ewes with lambs and store lambs, which sold to £69 for Suffolk store lambs from Backley, Pitcaple.

A fast trade for a smaller number of entries was achieved at Hexam and Northern Marts’ sale of 260 head of suckler beef bred store cattle. The sale peaked at £1240 twice for a Limousin cross bred steer from Henry Frater, Moorlaws, Alnwick and a bullock of the same breed from Messrs Burn, Grange Houses, Stamfordham. Heifers sold to £1190 for a Charolais cross from Great Chesters Haltwhistle.

A reduced entry of breeding sheep this week saw a steadier trade than previous weeks, where the sale was topped at £180 for Texel cross hoggs with single Beltex cross lambs at foot from J Carr and son, Camphill.

United Auctions held their monthly sale of 91 grazing cattle, 66 breeding cattle, 643 ewes and lambs and 164 yeld ewes and hoggs where all sections met a buoyant trade with bullocks averaging at 248.4p per kg and heifers levelled out at 241.5p. Breeding heifers with calf sold to £1900 from Barguillean.

A steady trade within the sheep saw a top of £200 for ewes with lambs from Lochnell (MacKenzie) while Texel hoggs from Hillcrest, Tiree peaked at £87.

Blackface ewe hogg averages slipped £5 per head on the year to level at £123.80 at Wallets Marts’ sale on Monday.

Top price was £170 paid for a pen from JW Kay and Co, Gass, Straiton, followed at £168 for a pen from W Graham and Son, Craigdarroch, Sanquhar and £165 from Kirkland Farming, Kirkland, Sanquhar.

Cross-bred hoggs peaked at £130 and £122 for Texels and Mules respectively from RM Jameson, Garrochtrie .

Hoggs with lambs were topped by Scotch Mules with Beltex lambs from Lowes Farming, Corsock which made £59 per life

A strong trade for a steady number of entries saw a top of £1050 for a Limousin heifer from F Gibson, Southwoodhead at C and D auction marts’ fortnightly sale. Also strong on the day was an Aberdeen-Angus heifer from JL Fisher and JD Steel, the keep, Scaleby selling to £1040, whilst bullocks peaked at £950 for a limousin from Southwoodhead.
