The Lawson family's champion from their Newbirks herd attracted the lead price of £2500 at Skipton Auction Mart’s dairy show and sale on Monday.

Newbirks Crest Jazz, the first prize newly calved heifer from Arthington, Otley, was purchased by Angus Dean, of the Threshfield herd, Toft House. Three weeks fresh and yielding 38litres per day she is, sired by the home-bred stock bull, Newbirks Crest, and is out of a dam from the milk-rich Jazz line.

Show judge Shaun Sowray, of Bishop Thornton, found his reserve in the second prize heifer from Brian and Judith Moorhouse’s Aireburn herd, Hesper, Bell Busk, which he later went on to buy for the second top price of £2450.

This was Aireburn Grafeeti Dellia, which also sold three weeks calved and giving 32litres. She is a daughter of Ladies-Manor Rd Grafeeti with eight generations of VG of EX behind her.

The third prize commercial heifer from Richard and Andrew Walker, of East Morton, came under the hammer for £1850 selling to Mark Goodall, of Tong, Bradford. She changed hands giving 35litres per day.
