A new record price for a Beltex lamb has been achieved with Buckles Espresso selling for 30,000gns in a private deal.

The lamb from Kevin Buckles and sons Jack and Tom, Buckle Farm, Barras, Kirkby Stephen, surpasses the previous best of 27,000gns paid for Kingledores Crusader in 2017.

A son of Heatheryhall Campbell, the pre-sale champion at Carlisle last year which went on to sell for 3800gns, Espresso is the first son sold out of the Buckles' top show ewe, College Adele, an 8500gns purchase at the College dispersal which stood champion and inter-breed sheep at the Great Yorkshire in 2017 and reserve female at the same show this year.

The lamb which had been entered for the breed sale at Carlisle next month, was bought by Andrew and Claire Wood who own the Withy Trees flock at Whittingham, Preston.
