The on-farm dispersal sale of Stan and Helen Quan’s Border herd from Benarth, Herefordshire, met a buoyant demand with Hereford breeders travelling from across the UK and Ireland to purchase.

Trade peaked at 4100gns for the 2014-born cow, Border Roulette M31, a daughter of the home-bred Border Rory D35 and due to calf in two months to Hustyn Stormy. She was purchased by Dai Walters, Aberdare who was the main volume buyer, securing 16 head in total.

Although cows and calves were sold separately, her heifer calf made 2000gns to give a combined sale of 6100gns.

The top priced outfit was Border Beauty P64 and her heifer calf Border Beauty S46 which achieved 3100gns each. The cow sold to Dai Walters while the calf was purchased by AJ Crook, Startford Upon Avon.

Selling for 4000gns was Border Oyster Gem M65, a 2014-born due in a couple of months to Border Mainstay. She went home with G McCreath, Staffordshire.

Next at 3500gns was the October 2016-born Border Pansy P59, by Border Rory K52, which also sold to Dai Walters along with an in-calf heifer from the Roulette family R36, due in September to Border Nimrod at 3000gns.

Stock bulls were topped at 3150gns for the 2014 Hustyn Stormy, bought by C Manning. Ten

Just behind on 3000gns was the 10-month-old bull calf Border Sentinal, a Witherstone Archie son, out of Pansy K43, which travelled to Northern Ireland with David Smyth.
