Aberdeenshire Suffolk breeder, Jimmy Douglas, made his presence felt at the Northern Counties breed show and sale at Carlisle, selling a tup lamb for the top price of 10,000gns.

His entry from the Cairness flock from Fraserburgh, stood reserve male at the pre-sale show and sold in a two-way split to Chris Holmes, Rookery, Broadway, Worcester and VE and BM Samuel, Upper Monkton, St Weonards, Hereford. A son of Millhouse Remarkable, out of a home-bred ewe by Cavanagrove Catalyst, his grand-dam is an ET sister to the 17,000gns Shrewsbury champion Cairness The Geezer.

The champion sold next at 4500gns. This was a ram lamb from A Hambleton, Dumfriesshire based Dovedale flock from Merkland, Thornhill, selling to TA Irwin and Son, Lower Kingstree, Umberleigh, Devon. He is by Strathbogie A Kind Of Magic and out of a 6800gns Strathbogie dam by Lakeview No Limits that is a full sister to the 6800gns gimmer that topped last year's Three Nations Sale 2018.

Just behind on 3800gns, Derbyshire breeder, Steven Buckley, Sittinglow, Buxton, sold a son of Strathbogie Peaky Blinder out of a Sitlow ewe, by Haddo High Voltage, to M Beattie, Ballynahatty Road, Omagh, Co Tyrone. He stood third in his class to the champion and reserve.

The first prize untrimmed ram lamb at the Great Yorkshireand reserve champion at the Royal Cheshire, from Geoffrey Richmond's Sullom flock from Preston, realised 1800gns, to JT and EA Midgley, Uncleby Wold, Kirkby Uncledale, York and Mr Richmond, who bought a half share. He is by Strathisla Schumacher, which has bred lambs to 48,000gns and out of a Sullom ewe, by Muirton One Direction.

Young Lilia Hutchinson, Howgillfoot, Kirkby Stephen, was also in the money, with her best, a ram lamb making 1400gns to A Williams, Llidiart-y-Rhos, Llanrug, Caernarfon, Gwynedd. He is a son of Birness Buckshot out of a Lakeview ewe that goes back to Gary Beacom's great L41 breeding ewe.

Top price amongst the females was a gimmer from David Gilmour's Broomknowes flock from Maybole which made 1000gns selling to Tom Fitzsimon, Sunnyhill, Dumfries. Female champion and reserve overall at the pre-sale show, and reserve inter-breed champion at Dalrymple show, this big girl is by Landale Rocket and out of a home-bred ewe by Rhaeadr Rock.
