Entries from the McGregor family's Gregors herd from Chesterhall Parks, Biggar, proved the star attraction at a

show and sale at Longtown, on Monday, producing the majority of top prices.

The event, which saw a 90% clearance, saw the McGregors, who were retiring from the breed, top the females with a 3100gns sale for Gregors Hyacinth Wild Tulip, a five-year-old cow by Kidston Viking out of Amulree Wild Tulip, which changed hands with heifer calf at foot by Cairnsmore Hardy Boy, to Messrs Walker of Netherwood, Banknock, Falkirk.

Just behind, on 3000gns. was Gregors Gina, a six-year-old cow by Podehole Drummer, with bull calf at foot bought by Dumfriesshire producers, MD and SA Clark, Williamwood, Kirtlebridge, Lockerbie. Gina is out of Colnvalley Gina, while her bull calf is also by Hardy Boy.

Heading north to Angus, JM Hay and Son, Meikle Tullo, Edzell, bought the herd matron, Fieldhouse Delphinium, a nine-year-old Ex92-classified Cairnsmore Zorro Prince-sired cow bred by FW Graham with heifer calf at foot, for 2600gns. She also sold with heifer calf at foot.

Other top lots from the Gregors herd, saw Bill and Jane Landers, Bargaly, Newton Stewart, fork out 2200gns for Gregors Julia Delphinium, a Gregors Findlay daughter with bull calf.

Top priced in-calf heifer from the McGregors, was Gregors Mary, a Gregors Jackpot-sired heifer, which made 1900gns selling to Stuart Currie, Beautry, Settle.

Leading the collective sale at 3800gns was a 17-month-old bull from Mark Runciman, East Mains, Oxton, Lauder, purchased by Messrs Black, Bridgestone, Kentmere, Kendal. Selling at this price was HW Montreal, a polled son of Caramba Hush, bred by Highland Wagyu, out of Uppermill Blythesome Janet 2.

The pre-sale champion, Shawhill Dewdrop Molly, from Messrs' Thomson, Roddick and Laurie's Shawhill herd from Lockerbie made 2600gns selling to WE Dickin, Norton Tower, Halifax. This roan maiden heifer is by Burnside Eliteand bred from an all Canadian Dewdrop family line.

Highest priced in-calf heifer at 2100gns, was Meonside Laurel, a Meonside Hercules daughter in calf to the 10,000gns Willingham Kensington, from D and T Bradley-Farmer of Wester Parkgate, Dumfries, purchased by Messrs Hay, Meikle Tullo.

Northern Ireland breeder, R Jackson, Sainfield, Co Down, bought the top priced lot from Mrs Townsend's Coxhill draft sale from Moffat, at 2200gns. This was the nine-year-old cow, Ballylinney Tessa by Vortrekker of Upsall and her Ballylinney Glenn-sired bull calf.
