United Auctions' second sale of 4984 head of all types of sheep saw store lambs average £52.46 – up £2.63 per head on the corresponding sale last year.

Top price was £67 paid for a Suffolk cross from Killean.

On Tuesday, the firm sold some 4266 head of store lambs where overall averages slipped £2.40 to £43.99 per head.

Topping the sale was a Texel cross from Bonawe Home Farm which made £64.50.

Skipton

Some 8188 store lambs were forward at Skipton auction mart’s fortnightly sale which sold to average £58.30, an increase of £3-£4 each on the 6357 lambs sold at the same sale last year.

A select entry of Texel ewe lambs was topped by a pen from Chris Ryder, of Blubberhouses, at £107.

The annual show for pens of 50 Mule store lambs saw Michael and Elaine Dugdale, Close House Farm, Giggleswick, pick up championship honours for the third year in succession. Their lambs later realised £65 per head.
