Welsh breeder, B Evans who owns the Janos flock from Powys, had a good day at the British Berrichon sheep sale at Carlisle, selling the three top priced males at 1500gns, 1200gns and 1000gns.

Dearest, when sold outside the ring was the shearling ram, Marshland Troy, a Statesman Ramsay son out of Tregwynt Orchid. First in his class at the pre-sale show, he sold to his breeder, C Morse from St Clears, Carmarthenshire.

Selling at 1200gns was Janos Uncle David J, a son of Troy, out of a Burnhope ewe, which sold in a two-way split to Messrs Gwynne, Talgarth, Powys and Messrs Bowe, Low Wen, St Clears, Carmarthenshire.

The supreme champion, Janos Uncle Ben, from the same home made 1000gns selling to Messrs Pollock, Coleraine, Northern Ireland. This tup lamb is by Janos Sydney, which was reserve champion at the Royal Welsh last year, and out of Janos Polly.

Two lambs made 950gns to include Newark Usain, from Frances Barbour, Newark, Sanquhar, purchased by Messrs Thomas, Hendy, Swansea. Third in his class at the pre-sale show, he is by Galtres Prince and out of Newark Pia.

Matching that was an entry from GB Thomas, Goitre Fach, Hendy, Swansea. A son of Spring Prince Charmin, he was knocked down to Messrs Redmond, Loughgall, Co Armagh, Northern Ireland.

Mr Thomas also topped the females at 1250gns with a gimmer daughter of Prince Charmin, which sold to Messrs Neill, Woodgrange, Downpatrick, Northern Ireland.

Other gimmers sold to 1000gns and 800gns, again from the Janos flock. Dearest was Janos Tigerlily, by Janos Samson, purcased by Messrs Wallace, Annalong, Newry, Co Down, with Janos Toffee, by a Goitre ram making 800gns again to Messrs Redmond.

Also staged the same day was the reduction sale from Richard Powell's Hillhead flock from Springwood, Kelso, which sold to 750gns for a gimmer by Swaledale Pouncer, which sold served to Glyncoch Tornado. Messrs James, Ditton Priors, Bridgenorth, Shropshire, were the final bidders.
