A flying trade for Texel females at the Solway and Tyne Club sale, staged the evening before the males was led by the first two in the catalogue, Auldhouseburn gimmers from Hugh and Alan Blackwood, that realised 10,000gns and 14,000gns respectively.

The event, which saw averages improve in both the gimmer and ewe lamb sections, was topped by ET sisters bred from an Auldhouseburn gimmer by Clinterty Yuga Khan that sold for 3500gns at the Select Seven Sale, and sired by the 130,000gns Sportsmans A Star, bought at Lanark, in 2017.

The 14,000gns gimmer from Auldhouseburn, Muirkirk, was bought by Charlie Boden, of the Mellor Vale and Sportsmans flocks from Mellor, Stockport, while the 10,000gns entry sold to Rob Evans, buying for this Hope Valley flock from Fox Farm, Minsterley, Shrewsbury.

The sale also witnessed the last of Robert Forsyth's Baltier Texels from Whithorn cashed, which sold to 9000gns and 5000gns. The dearest, a daughter of Ellen Valley Y Not, bred from a Castlecarin ewe by Knock Powerpacker, is a maternal sister to a 9500gns sale here in 2017 and sold to Kenny Pratt, buying for his Tophill flock from Oldtown, Peterculter.

Northern Ireland breeders, Owen and Liam Donohoe, Derryvore, Enniskillen, bought the 5000gns, an ET sister to the pen leader.

Matching the 9000gns bid, the female champion and supreme overall at the pre-sale show from Rob Bennett's Plasucha flock, sold to Messrs Teward, New View, Staindrop, Darlington. She is by the 11,000gns Plasucha All Star and bred from a ewe by Eden Valley Wiz Kid.

One of the best bred gimmers in the catalogue, from the Clark family's Garngour flock from Lesmahgow, made 8000gns selling to Stuart Barclay, Harestone, Insch. His purchase, by New View Awesome, is a maternal sister to the 17,000gns Garngours Bullet; the £29,000 Garngour Awesome and the dam of the 40,000gns Garngour Alabama being out of a ewe by Castlecairn Vavavoom.

On the other side of the equation, Harestone sold their second prize gimmer, a daughter of Eden Valley Wiz Kid, bred from a Garngour Ultimatum-sired female, for 4500gns again to Rob Evans, Hope Valley.

The third prize gimmer from the Sportsmans flock, a Knockem Abracadabra-sired female out of Strathbogie Untouchable daughter, made 4000gns to Clanfield Texel, Little Clanfield, Oxfordshire.
