Trade peaked at £1250 for a bullock from JW Slack and Son, Newby Farm, Carlisle.

A Limousin topped the heifers at £1130 from W McKie, Lawrence Holme, Wigton, too.

The weaned cattle sold to £1195 for a British Blue cross bull from Messrs Forbes, Dykehead, Blackford.

All classes met a buoyant demand at United Auctions’ weekly sale of 1257 store cattle and 158 cast cows at Stirling, last week.

Bullocks peaked at 219.30p per kg for a 342kg Charolais cross from Newpark, and to £1190 per head for a 622kg Limousin cross from Blackbyres, to produce an average of 186.87p.

Limousin crosses topped the heifers at 217.40p per kg from Glenside, and £1215 from Nether Dalkeith.

Heifers averaged out at 187.08p per kg.

Craig Wilson sold 705 store cattle at their fortnightly sale at Ayr, which saw bullocks and heifers average out at 187.3p and 182.6p per kg respectively.

A Shorthorn bullock from Altgolach, Arran topped the gross trade at £1145 whilst heifers peaked at £1035 for a Simmental from Dykefield.

Top price per head was £1070 paid for bullocks from A Smith, Holmbyre, Dalry, while heifers of the same breed reached £900 for M Sibbald, Cowden, Dollar.

Heifers peaked at £875 for Charolais crosses from Messrs Borland, Castlehill and 182.4p for Limousins from Messrs Parker, Mill of Plunton.

Overall averages saw bullocks and heifers level at 180.8p and 174.4p respectively.

Bullocks topped the sale at 243.9p for a 246kg Charolais from Mains of Auchmedden, Pennan and £1230 for 694kg Limousin crosses from Little Blackpots, Auchnagatt.

Simmental crosses led the way in the heifers at 234.3p from Auchtertyre, Elgin and £1080 for Limousin crosses from Rorandle, Monymusk.

Bulls were topped at £740 for another Aberdeen-Angus this time from A and A Ewing, Dumbretton, Annan.
