Just shy of 600 Suffolk and continental breeding rams were forward at Penrith and District Farmers’ annual show and sale, on Tuesday where a Texel shearling from J Winter, Clickham topped the trade at £1100 selling to J Nattrass.
Suffolks peaked at £1000 for a shearling from J Woodburn and Partners, Mansriggs Hall, purchased by JD Bowness, Cliburn Hall.
Top price amongst the ram lambs was £700 paid for a Suffolk from Miss L Hutchinson, Redgate, which sold to DW Cannon, Low Abbey.
Cross-bred rams peaked at £1050 for a Texel cross Beltex shearling from P Chester, Grassgill Lodge, bought by Messrs Lightfoot, Gillside.
