A mixed trade prevailed throughout at United Auctions' multi-breed ram sale of 842 head at Stirling, where prices peaked at £2000, while the show and sale of pedigree 48 Beltex and 341 Lleyns sold to 1800gns and 1350gns, respectively.

Topping the trade was a Bluefaced Leicester shearling ram from K Campbell, Claylands, purchased by J Struthers, Gribloch.

Beltex peaked at 1800gns for a shearling from A and M Dunlop, Corstane, which sold to JC and SE Little, The Guard, Wigton, and Lleyns were led by a shearling from Hamish Goldie, South Bowerhouses, Dumfries, bought by T Barnes, Rhemore.

A cracking trade for Lleyn females saw prices peak at £230 per head for a pen of five gimmers from Debbie McGowan, Incheoch, selling to D Clark, Borgue, followed at £195 and £180 from C Davidson, Orkney, purchased by J and A Dunlop, Maybole.

Lleyn ewe lambs were topped at £118 by the first prize pen from Tom and Ian Walling, Over Whitlaw, Selkirk, purchased by Glasson Stables, Mauchline.

A strong demand for the Lleyns also resulted in averages rising in all sections, with gimmers up £2 on the year at £142; ewe lambs at £89, also up £2 and rams up £132 at £636.

The dispersal from A Scott's Yonderton Lleyn flock saw 60 ewe lambs average £58.27; 92 gimmers at £111.66 and 29 four-crop ewes at £72.

Texels were topped at £1000 on three occasions, to include a shearling from W Dunlop and Son, Elmscleugh, selling to J Kay and Son, Hartside; another from J Buchan, Torrax to Bonsor Estate and J Gray, Scrogton selling to JW McEwan and Sons, Mount Farm.

Suffolks sold to £850 twice from F Wight, Carwood, to TA Doig, Shannochar and Messrs, West Newlands.

A Texel shearling from J More, Townhead, led the non-accredited lines, selling at £1000 to A MacArthur, Cretlevane.

Whitefaced breeds enjoyed the best of the day's trading with Texel and Beltex cross shearling averages both up on the year at £549.84 (+£74.69) and £372.00 (+£25.85) respectively. Bluefaced Leicester shearling and ram lamb averages both slipped at £554.32 (-£108.53) and £201.20 (-£196.58), respectively, and Suffolk shearlings fell £3.76 to £429.42.

Texel ram lambs also fell by £28.85 on the year to level at £311.74.
