Mule ewe lambs averaged £83.82 at Harrison and Hetherington's Latter Fair Sale at Carlisle, where the entry of 5235 head saw no fewer than 43 pens sell for more than £100.

Top price was £280 paid for the sixth prize pen from JW Smith-Jackson, Hightown, selling to Messrs Batty, Kendal. Hightown also produced the lead flock average selling 142 at £111.20.

The champion pen, selected by judges William Hird, Wigton, and David Mattinson, Cockermouth, came from Messrs Moore, Highside Farm, Haltwhistle, whose winning lambs later sold for £250 per head to Messrs Geary, Milton Keynes.

The Latter Fair sale of breeding rams, was topped at £800 by a Suffolk shearling from Messrs Fitzsimon, Sunnyhill.
